When Gary first told me this story about the "certain word", I said, "what a good idea, I'll try that". A couple of years later I finally got the chance when I was photographing the birthday of a good friend of mine - The kind of friend who would ordinarily find the use of such a word very funny. So at the vital moment I said something along the lines of "Everyone say *certain word*" and I was stunned by the reaction. Instead of the smiles and guffaws I was expecting I was presented with a group of 5 people all looking at me like they were going to thump me. Unbeknown to me, standing right behind me, watching the group have their photo taken was my friend's mum. I don't think I've felt that embarrassed in my entire life and felt more than a bit ashamed to-boot. Fortunately she was a good sport and I was off the hook. The moral of the story is, if you're going to try something of a slightly fruitier nature, make sure the coast is clear first.
